About Us


Matt Sandburg:

Matt was born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received Bachelor Degrees in both Economics and Philosophy. Matt then attended the University of Miami School of Law where he maintained a Dean’s Merit Scholarship for all three years.

Matt has spent his entire professional career in Sarasota practicing Criminal Law, where he:
    • Is a Board Certified Criminal Trial Expert
    • Practices Criminal Defense/DUI in Sarasota, Venice, and Bradenton
    • Is licensed to practice in both Florida State Courts and Federal Court in the Middle District of Florida
    • Spent over five years as a Prosecutor here in Sarasota and over twelve years practicing exclusively criminal law in Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice.
    • Has prosecuted over one thousand cases in Sarasota, including hundreds of DUI and Drug Charges
    • Tried over 50 cases to jury, this including over 15 DUI Trials, 20 Felony Trials, as well as Trials of DUI Manslaughter and Second Degree Murder
    • Serves as volunteer judge for Sarasota Teen Court
    • Served as President for Sarasota Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL, Sarasota Chapter)
    • Served as board president of the Epilepsy Services of Southwest Florida
    • Served as Barrister for the John M. Scheb American Inn of Court

Tiera Charles:

Tiera Charles, a Sarasota County native, has worked as a legal assistant, paralegal, and legal transcriptionist for over fifteen years, specializing in the area of Criminal Defense Law. Tiera has extensive experience in criminal court filings and client relations as well as legal research.  Tiera is also passionate and has great resources for clients who are looking to get back on their feet after resolving their criminal case and clients that are looking to get help for a drug addiction or mental health illness.  

Tiera and Matt have worked together since 2011.
